Mold the Home Invader!

Recently my husband was asked to do a home inspection for a new 2 family house that was built a year ago. The bank wanted him to go in, do a walk through, and give them an estimate on how much it would cost to rehab the property! They would like to rent it out as soon as possible! Ohhh, I'm like adding up the coins in my head because this would be a great job and we need it right? Wrong, let me tell you what happened. When my husband opens the door the horrific stench of Stachybotrys or black mold (I envisioned a large blackish green plume of smoke) blew out and quickly he had to grab his respirator in order to breath. Again, this was a brand new house that know one has ever lived in! He said he had never seen anything like it, there was mold everywhere, door hinges, walls, light fixtures. It was alienistic in nature, it had invaded this home like the Blob!!! Now to look at this house it seems livable, here's the 1st floor Kitchen and one of the Bedrooms, nice enough, your thinking just some carpet and paint right?

Noooooo, think Black Nasty A _ _ Mold Everywhere!!!
Under the cabinets all over the walls and doors; it's the most scariest thing! I think this mold may even beat out those horrible Georgia animal sized roaches! Look here it is, Black MOLD!

He immediately told the bank who reluctantly asked him to call a mold remediator to see how much it's going to cost to have that mold removed. My husband met this man Larry Foster of Enviro-Cure Services who has been in the mold business for over 25 years, he even wrote a book called "Breathing Dangerously:what your Doctor may not know can kill you". Larry walks in holds his nostrils tight looks around and immediately walks out. He told my husband that the cost for removing this mold would be somewhere around 15,000.00. He said, "There are visible mold colonies on the walls, doors, molding, appliances, etc., If the bank continues to wait the price will increase. Basically, the entire house needs to be gutted, carpets, sheetrock, fixtures, etc.,
We found out that the Government is now starting to acknowledge the problem in our schools and military bases, they are allocating money to have the mold removed because of it's relationship to declining health. Also, they are cracking down on landlords who are ignoring mold in homes they are renting.
I wrote this post because I was shocked and felt the need to make everyone aware of this problem. Mold is the cause of many ailments we suffer and it's important to find it and remove it quickly. I went on a mold hunt this weekend in my basement and needless to say I did a lot of throwing out and cleaning!!! Rest assured if you have had any kind of water damage or leaks mold is surly growing in your home!!!

Does anyone have any experience or thoughts on this subject? Let me know:)

You know what? I don't have anything to offer regarding mold, but I wanted to say "I love you." Your "needs" being fully, met, pressed down, shaken together, running over -are in my thoughts and prayers.

Ewwww, that is completely disgusting and does not do the builder any favors at all.

Kudos to your hubs for a job well done. Someone else may have looked away and some poor family could have bought it only to become very sick from the mold.

Our last rental had this black mold in the laundry room. Our landlord did not care. It was disgusting. We did the best we could with it. Needless to say, we started looking for a place to move to right away. That house is still vacant. I can't believe that is in a NEW house! Wow!

I don't know anything about mold, but I do know when I go in some air conditioned spaces, my sinuses lock up big time. I believe what we breath definitely is the cause of many of our illnesses.

Yes ladies Mold is on the rise when you get a chance read Larry's site. It's an eye opener! It's funny today the bank (owner) doesn't want to spend the money to have it removed. Hmmmm....

Did they ever figure out what caused the mold in a new house? I tested allergic to mold so that makes me shiver.

Thanks for stopping by today and following my blog. Off to wonder around your blog a little more.

Have a great night.

Yes, Sheryl moisture from water! In that particular house water rain water runs toward the foundation, which is a slab. Hubby says, make sure your gutters and downspouts operate properly:)

We lived in an apartment for about a year and a half that every time we had a really heavy rain, the carpet in the corner of our bedroom would get wet. They kept bringing in fans and having the carpet cleaned and caulking at the rock exterior of the building. Apparently the water was coming in through the walls somehow. Eventually I got sick of this & voiced my concerns about health risks & wouldn't there be mold all in my walls by now. (My son was 1-2 1/2 yrs during this time.) Within one week of me saying this, they moved us to another BIGGER apartment in the complex for the price that we were paying for our crappy small leaky one. They even paid for boxes and movers. Point of this story--don't sit around for as long as I did if your in an apartment and this happens--COMPLAIN, COMPLAIN, COMPLAIN!!!

Mold is a term used to refer to fungi that grow in the form of multicellular thread-like structures called hyphae. Fungi that exist as single cells are called yeasts. And if you find mold in your home, bathrooms & kitchens, you can immediately contact with professional for mold removal.

The most common black mold symptoms and health results are of a respiratory response. Chronic coughing and sneezing, discomfort to the eyes, mucus filters of the nose and throat, rashes, chronic fatigue and persistent complications can all be symptomatic of black mold exposure or black mold poisoning.
